Sophie Okonedo

PERSONAL

Sophie Okonedo adalah seorang aktris dan penyanyi berkebangsaan Inggris. Pada tahun 1992, ia memulai aktingnya pada drama YOUNG SOUL REBELS. Pada thaun 2004, ia masuk nominasi sebagai Best Actress in a Supporting Role di Academy Award atas perannya sebagai Tatiana Rusesabagina pada film HOTEL RWANDA.

Okonedo lahir di London, Inggris. Ia adalah anak dari Joan, seorang guru, dan Henry Okonedo, bekerja di pemerintahan. Ayahnya lahir di Nigeria dan ibunya lahir di East End, London. Ketika Okonedo berumur liam tahun, ayahnya mencampakkan keluarganya sehingga menyebabkan dirinya menjadi miskin.

Ia memiliki seorang anak dari hubungannya dengan Eion Martin, seorang editor film berkebangsaan Irlandia. Anaknya bernama Aoife yang lahir pada tahun 1997. Mereka tinggal di Muswell Hill, London. Ia ditunjuk sebagai Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) pada tahun 2010.

Ayahnya, Henry, meninggal pada tanggal 22 Juli 2009 di Orlando, Florida.

KARIR

Okonedo berlatih di Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. Ia pernah bekerja di berbagai macam media seperti film, televisi, theater, dan drama musikal. Ia pernah tampil di film animasi SCREAM OF THE SHALKA sebagai Alison Cheney. Pada tahun 2010, ia berperan sebagai Liz Ten (Elizabeth X) pada serial TV DOCTOR WHO.

Ia juga pernah bermain di film CLOCKING OFF, STROMBREAKER, dan OLIVER TWIST. Ia juga dikenal dikenal atas perannya sebagai Wachati Princess di ACE VENTURA: WHEN NATURE CALLS.

Pada tahun 2004, ia masuk nominasi sebagai Best Supporting Actress atas perannya sebagai Tatiana Rusesabagina pada film HOTEL RWANDA. Ia juga masuk nominasi di Golden Globe sebagai Lead Actress in a Miniseries pada mini seri TSUNAMI: THE AFTERMATH.

Ia juga muncul pada film THE SECRET LIFE OF BEES (2008), SKIN (2009), serta pada drama MRS MANDELA yang disiarkan di BBC.
