Tahun ini mereka memberi penghargaan khusus kepada Oprah Winfrey.  

Golden Globe Awards tahun ini diwarnai protes para aktor aktris Hollywood akan maraknya pelecehan seksual. Mereka beramai-ramai mengenakan busana hitam di atas red carpet. Tidak hanya itu, beberapa di antaranya seperti Meryl Streep dan Michelle Williams hadir dengan mengajak serta para aktivis kesetaraan gender dan ras.
